6th international Non-festival of the Theatre of the Oppressed 2018 - Played Gender

6th international Non-festival of theatre of the oppressed will be held in August 2.-5 in the colour red! For the sixth year in a row we are proudly announcing the Non-estival of theatre of the oppressed, the creative and educational meeting of creators and artist working with the techniques of theatre of the oppressed in Slovenia and abroad, and also other fans of smaller festivals in nature who like to explore the principles of community and active participation through artistic and activist approaches. These year it comes in red. PLAYING GENDER? This year's theme is playing gender. The programme is entirely dedicated to workshops with established facilitators from Slovenia and abroad. The workshops will deal with the issues of gender inequality and modes of oppression in patriarchal societies, searching for ways to equality through the techniques of theatre of the oppressed (Inês Barbosa (PT)), raising awareness of our usage of the body in everyday life reinforcing the conceptions of gender ascribed to us through physical and improvisational theatre (Nina Vombergar (SI)), while a workshop dedicated exclusively to women will focus on researching gender relationships and defining situations as perceived by women through the aesthetics of the oppressed (Jana Burger (SI)). With this year we are introducing a new virtual paragraph of the ethical codex which is that you cannot only partially attend the workshops. Applying means also commiting to starting and finishing the workshop. That's right, for three days we will not let you run away from co-creating! This year the programme includes awesome workshops by facilitators from Slovenia and abroad! PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN Additionally we also offer free children's day care during workshops and a special theatre workshop for children A different kind of fairy-tale, where participants aged 7-10 will make their own version based on a well known fairy-tale. You can find application for the workshop for children HERE: https://goo.gl/forms/Z9fpl5V2rtX7E3Og1 An important part of the Non-festival is also the inclusion of the local community of Gornji Grad into Non-festival activities and a special workshop for older town folk that will be carried out in the DEOS Center for the elderly in Gornji Grad. All final productions and visiting performances are thus public and free of charge. FREE PERFORMANCES The main Non-festival stage Under the barn will be visited by performances addressing the issues of gender inequality and giving voice to women. The performance EMA about the anarcho-feminist Emma Goldman performed by the ZIZ collective will pose the questions of power and inequality in society while encouraging us to fight for our legal rights. The musical performance Underwater presents the anxieties of contemporary life and a humorous insight into our current situation and where we can escape to, performed by Maja Dekleva Lapajne and Alenka Marinič. The legislative forum play Status quo on the labour market performed by the Vse ali nič group will question the (precarious) position of workers on the labour market. My fairy-rights is a performance for children and families performed by the Transformator association in which we will all together be looking for ways to empower female characters in classic fairy-tales. WE ALL CO-CREATE, WE ALL ARE ARTISTS The principal aim of the Non-festival of theatre of the oppressed is the formation of a community, bonding, exchange of experience, knowledge and skills and spreading the methods of the theatre of the oppressed and other approaches which support theatre of the oppressed or are related to it. With the desire to build a closely connected community, the Non-festival is open for just 50 participants including the organisers. At the Non-festival all participants co-create activities according to the principle of active participation based on communal work. The Transformator society coordinates all the practical aspects of the festival, while the participants actively co-create and cooperate in the practical aspects of the festival. This year the Non-festival will take place from August 2nd to 5th 2018 in Gornji Grad, in the heart of Slovenia amidst a beautiful landscape, green woods, unpolluted streams, under a starry sky with no street lights in an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
